CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 29 (UPI) -- The chief executive of a U.S. Christian broadcaster is building a new, $4 million home even as he has been cutting jobs, records indicate.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

David Cerullo, chief executive of Inspiration Networks of Charlotte, N.C., is constructing one of the priciest homes in western South Carolina even though workers at the broadcaster have been laid off, wages have been frozen and office thermostats have been turned up to save money, the Charlotte Observer reported Monday.

Real estate records show Cerullo's new 9,000-square-foot home is going up on the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains west of Greenville, S.C., in a neighborhood that overlooks Lake Keowee, the newspaper said.

The fast-growing, non-profit broadcaster has raised tens of millions from viewers, who are reportedly told that God brings financial success to those who donate to it. Inspiration Networks has drawn scrutiny over incentives it won from the state of South Carolina to move there from Charlotte, the newspaper said.

Current and former workers say the broadcaster starting laying people off in late 2008. The Observer said Cerullo did not respond to requests for interviews.
