NIAMEY, Niger, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- The prime minister of Niger
is backing a U.N. plan to stop the food aid to the country, saying
it hurts the nation's dignity.SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS
Hama Amadou said this year's harvest is a good one and that
food from it is getting to those who need it, the BBC reports.
He said he didn't want his country to be reliant on
donations.
Amadou also criticized the exploitation of images of
impoverished people for donations.
The U.N. World Food Program wants to start ending aid to
those who have food after the harvest. It says that would bring down
food prices in Niger.
However, the international aid group Doctors Without Borders
said it's too soon to end aid and that millions still are starving.
