MEMPHIS, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Greyhound officials say a Memphis security guard was suspended after stranded bus passengers complained about their plight to the media.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Greyhound spokeswoman Maureen Richmond said Monday a security guard who allegedly barred a stranded passenger from re-entering the Memphis bus station after she had complained about her treatment to a television reporter had been suspended, The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal reported.

"The security guard in question did not have authority to remove a passenger", Richmond told the newspaper, while adding that a report on the treatment of stranded passengers carried by WMC-TV, Memphis, was "not representative of the company's values as they relate to customer service."

The Commercial Appeal said some Greyhound passengers were stranded in downtown Memphis from Thursday through Sunday due to icy roads. The stranded passengers complained to media outlets that Greyhound officials were being tight-lipped about the status of canceled trips as some buses were allowed to depart and others weren't.

Richmond said some stranded passengers were offered food discounts or meal vouchers and some were offered refunds on their tickets and return trips.

"Our training will focus on more frequent communications with the passengers in an event like this", she told the newspaper.
