DETROIT, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Toyota Motor Co. has a fix lined up for potentially faulty gas pedals and will reveal it soon, company officials say.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

The Japanese automaker told Toyota dealers Saturday it had arrived at a remedy for the gas pedal problem and would disclose the details on Monday morning media appearances, The Detroit News reported.

Some 2.3 million U.S. and Canadian Toyota vehicles have been recalled and up to 1.9 million more in other regions could be called in to repair pedals that can stick or fail to spring back properly.

The News quoted an unnamed senior U.S. Transportation Department official as saying Toyota had presented the department with a gas pedal fix and indicated the department did not object to it.

"They'll halt production to make sure that customers won't be waiting while parts go to production", Tammy Darvish, vice president of DARCARS Automotive Group in Silver Spring, Md., told the newspaper. She said new parts and the re-engineered pedals should reach Toyota stores by Thursday or Friday.
