CHICAGO, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Grain futures closed sharply lower on the Chicago Board of Trade Wednesday as the dollar index jumped 0.5 percent.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Corn was off 11 1/4 to off 12, soybeans were off 16 1/2 to off 17 1/2, wheat was off 17 1/2 to off 18 1/4 and oats were off 1.

Weakened by the dollar's strength, corn futures reached lows for the year Wednesday in advance of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly export report. Light export demand has put downward pressure on wheat prices. In soybean trading, favorable weather in Brazil and Argentina continue to weigh on prices.

The prices:

Corn: Mar 3.53, off 12; May 3.64 1/2, off 11 3/4; Jul 3.74 3/4, off 11 1/2; Sep 3.82 3/4, off 11 1/4.

Soybeans: Mar 9.08, off 17 1/2; May 9.19, off 17 1/2; Jul 9.28 1/2, off 17 1/4; Aug 9.24 1/2, off 16 1/2.

Wheat: Mar 4.69, off 18 1/4; May 4.83 1/2, off 18; Jul 4.95 1/2, off 17 1/2; Sep 5.11 1/4, off 17 3/4.

Oats: Mar 2.31; May 2.40 1/4; Jul 2.48; Sep 2.56 -- all off 1.
