OTTAWA, July 23 (UPI) -- Canada's main contracted H1N1 flu vaccine manufacturer announced 20 percent of its output will be exported to developing nations this year.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

In a statement, pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline said "subject to the yield and existing contractual commitments" to Canada, 20 percent of the vaccine for the H1N1 flu would go to undisclosed countries, the Globe and Mail reported Thursday.

Both Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada declined to comment on the decision, which was made solely by GSK, the newspaper said.

The drugmaker is in talks to begin human trials of its swine flu vaccine, which is manufactured at a facility in Sainte-Foy, Quebec. The company said once approved and production is maximized, it would be in a position to supply all of Canada's needs as its contract stipulates as well as having an exportable surplus in September.

This week, Australia began human trials of H1N1 vaccine, and the U.S. government said testing would begin there in mid-August.

As of last week, Canada, with a population of 33.5 million, had reported more than 10,000 cases of the virus originally called swine flu, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
