DAYTON, Ohio, June 10 (UPI) -- An Ohio grand jury has indicted a Hong Kong man for allegedly trying to buy 12 infrared thermal imaging cameras for illegal export, prosecutors say.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

U.S. Attorney Gregory Lockhart says an indictment was handed up Wednesday in Dayton against Hing Shing Lau, also known as Victor Lau, for trying to buy the militarily sensitive equipment from a local company and intending to export it, The Dayton Daily News reported.

Lau was arrested June 3 in Canada, officials said. They asserted the export of such infrared cameras to China is prohibited because of their possible military uses, such as in drone missiles and in sophisticated surveillance gear.

Lockhart said Lau was indicted on two counts of violating export control laws, with each punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $1 million, the Daily News reported.

The Hong Kong man was also reportedly indicted on four counts of money laundering.
