MOSCOW, June 12 (UPI) -- President Dmitry Medvedev marked Russia Day Friday by honoring Valentina Tereshkova and 11 others for science and arts achievements.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Medvedev presented Russian Federation State Awards in a lavish Kremlin ceremony.

Tereshkova, best known of the honorees, was the first woman in space in 1963. She dedicated her award to the people who worked to put her in space, RIA Novosti reported.

There were medals also for Yevgeny Kaspersky of the eponymous anti-virus software and the three creators of the Smeshariki children's animated series.
