LOS ANGELES, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- U.S. actress Geri Jewell, who had a recurring role on "The Facts of Life", says she is a lesbian in a new memoir, "I'm Walking as Straight as I Can."

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Jewell, 54, played character Blair's cousin, Geri, on the sitcom from 1980 to 1984.

The Hollywood Reporter said Jewell talks in the book about living with cerebral palsy, as well as her battle with substance abuse and what it was like being the first disabled person to have a recurring role on prime-time television. "Walking" is set for release April 1.

In addition to her work on "Facts", Jewell is a stand-up comedian and also known for playing a supporting part in HBO's western "Deadwood" from 2004 to 2006.
