LOS ANGELES, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Judges of the 37th annual Annie Awards said "Up" won the best picture award, while the U.S. animated film's director, Pete Docter, earned best director kudos.

The Los Angeles Times said Sunday "Up" was able to earn best animated feature honors by besting fellow nominees "Coraline", "Fantastic Mr. Fox", "The Princess and the Frog", "The Secret of Kells" and "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs."

"Coraline" was able to capitalize on its 10 Annie Awards nominations at Saturday's International Animated Film Society ceremony by winning awards for best character design, music and production design.

Meanwhile, "Princess" received awards for animated effects, character animation and voice acting, while "Fox" director Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach were honored with an award for best writing in a feature production.

The Times said since 2001, the film that received the best animated feature award at the Annie Awards has also won an Oscar for best animated feature on six occasions.
