| LOS ANGELES, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- The Oscar-nominated, science-fiction blockbuster "Avatar" has surpassed "Titanic" to set a North American box-office record. SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS "Avatar" has earned $601.1 million in the United States and Canada through Tuesday, The Hollywood Reporter reported Wednesday. "Titanic", which opened in late 1997 and ended its theatrical run in 1998, racked up $600.8 million in receipts in North America, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said. "I have no idea where we go from here", said Fox domestic distribution President Bruce Snyder. "The only picture that has gotten this high was "Titanic,' but 'Avatar' is coming off of a $30 million weekend while 'Titanic' was ending its theatrical run at the same point in the cume (or cumulative audience.)"
