PASADENA, Calif., Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Black Entertainment Television executives say their new reality series following rapper Lil' Kim as she prepared for her prison term does not condone her crime.

BET is promoting "Lil' Kim: The Countdown to Lockdown" as presenting the real Kimberly Jones -- "her words, her life, her way", the New York Daily News reported Wednesday.

The network's promo says viewers will see her as she gets ready to serve her year and a day federal prison term with her "mouth shut and head held high."

BET Entertainment President Reginald Hudlin said the network in no way supported her choice to commit perjury to a grand jury investigating a New York shootout.

"It's a very serious look at her life and her choices, and the consequences of those choices", Hudlin told the Daily News.

He said the show does not make light of the crime nor the sentence.

"Lil' Kim: Countdown to Lockdown" will premiere March 9.
