DETROIT, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- The United Auto Workers union said General Motors Co. is seeking worker concessions at Delphi auto parts factories in Saginaw, Mich., and Lockport, N.Y.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

General Motors bought several Delphi plants in 2009 as it emerged from bankruptcy, the Detroit Free Press reported Tuesday. Delphi was in bankruptcy itself and GM purchased the plants to ensure they could count on these factories for parts they needed.

GM, however, is expected to unload the former Delphi production plants and is looking for concessions to make the plants more appealing to buyers, the newspaper said.

Other former Delphi plants -- in Wyoming, Mich., Kokomo, Ind., and Rochester, N.Y. -- may be may be in the same position, the newspaper said.

GM is seeking wage freezes and a cut in pay of $3 per hour for workers in skilled trades positions.

"We were advised in order to remain competitive, there will be other necessary modifications we must consider and ratify", said a UAW memo at local 686 in Lockport, N.Y.
