DEARBORN, Mich., Jan. 13 (UPI) -- A man in Dearborn, Mich., will serve five years probation for keeping more than 100 Chihuahuas in his home, his lawyer says.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Attorney James Schmier, who is representing Kenneth Lang Jr., said his 46-year-old client agreed to plead guilty to a count of felony animal cruelty as part of a plea deal with authorities, The Detroit Free Press said Wednesday.

Authorities said a total of 105 Chihuahuas were found living in Lang's home by investigators. The bodies of more than 100 additional Chihuahuas were reportedly found inside the Dearborn man's freezer.

Schmier said his client suffers from a variety of unspecified mental conditions and has a low IQ. Under the plea deal, Lang will face court supervision while undergoing mental health treatment.

The attorney told the Free Press that Lang, who was deemed legally competent to stand trial, sought companionship from the Chihuahuas and simply took his love for the dogs to an unfortunate extreme.

"It just got out of hand and overwhelmed him", Schmier said. "He's a very human guy with a very human story, and with very human frailties."

Lang will be sentenced on Feb. 9.
