JOHNSTOWN, Pa., Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Former TV weatherman James Holcomb will spend as much as 10 years in state prison in Pennsylvania for sexually abusing a young girl, a judge ruled.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Cambria County Judge Gerard Long sentenced Holcomb, whose on-air name was Jay Patrick, to at least four years in state prison Thursday and labeled the former weatherman a sexually violent predator, The (Johnstown, Pa.) Tribune-Democrat reported.

The unidentified victim in the case said Holcomb, 43, began sexually abusing her in 2000 when she was 4 and the abuse continued until April 2003.

Holcomb pleaded no-contest to the sexual abuse charges in 2005, but fled to Ukraine prior to sentencing. He was apprehended in Ukraine in March and was returned to the United States.

The former TV personality then pleaded guilty in April to charges of failing to appear for sentencing in 2005 and for stealing and cashing checks from a nursery that previously employed him.

The Tribune-Democrat said in connection with those cases, Holcomb was ordered to compensate the county for an electronic monitoring anklet he was wearing during his 2005 disappearance, as well as $7,547 in restitution to the nursery.
