HUNTINGDON VALLEY, Pa., Sept. 23 (UPI) -- A suburban Philadelphia club revoked its agreement with a day camp when it discovered the campers were black and Hispanic children, state authorities allege.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

A report written by the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission found that the Valley Club in Huntingdon Valley, Pa., scotched an agreement with Creative Steps Inc., a Northeast Philadelphia day camp, after the campers' first visit because of "racial animus", The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Wednesday.

The 33-page state findings, given to reporters by attorneys representing four of the campers, cited "racially coded comments" made by Valley Club members in the historically white suburb in their move to cancel Creative Steps' contract, even though a $1,950 check had been delivered to pay for the children to have weekly swimming trips, the newspaper said.

The commission has ordered the Valley Club to pay a $50,000 civil penalty for discrimination against one child who reported hearing racial comments after the day campers arrived at the club on June 29, the Inquirer reported.
