SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa., May 2 (UPI) -- Twenty-two Slippery Rock, Pa., University students who visited Mexico say they will hold their own graduation ceremony after being banned from the official one.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

The college seniors hurried home after an outbreak of the swine flu hit Mexico, where they were student teaching, because they were worried the country would close the border and they didn't want to miss their graduation ceremonies, CNN reported Saturday.

But they will miss them anyway because university administrators banned the 22 from attending the official ceremonies after receiving worried complaints from other students and parents.

The broadcaster said a Slippery Rock vice president sent an e-mail to the returning students saying, "The university has received hundreds of calls from students and parents who were worried about being exposed at the commencement ceremonies."

"At first I was like, no way, no way", student Dan Godshall told CNN. "I had the irrational, 15-minute oh my God, oh my God, I can't go to my graduation", he said, but added he's all right with it now because he'll be able to graduate in a smaller ceremony with 21 friends rather than hundreds of students he doesn't know.
