KABUL, Afghanistan, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- A suicide motorcycle bomber set off a blast Wednesday in front of a hospital in Afghanistan's capital Kabul, killing and injuring several people, NATO said.

The report said at least two people died including a member of the National Directorate of Security and 32 more were wounded in the attack, NATO's International Security Assistance Force said on its Web site. The report said those wounded included personnel of the security directorate and civilians.

"This vile attack deliberately targeted Afghan officials and civilians. We offer our sincere condolences to the families of those murdered by this attack, and we wish for a swift recovery for all those injured", said Rear Adm. Vic Beck, ISAF's public affairs director.

The Washington Post reported the attack during the rush-hour had apparently targeted Afghan intelligence officers riding a bus. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

"A suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden motorbike into a bus carrying government employees" around 8 a.m., local time, near Istaqlal hospital in the Serahi Alawdin locality in Kart-e-Sah area of Kabul, a witness told China's official Xinhua news agency.

The Kabul blast follows two such attacks recently both in southern Kandahar province, the birthplace of the Taliban.

A suicide bomb attack Monday killed three people, two of them Afghan policemen, in Kandahar's southeastern town of Spin Boldak. Last Friday, in a similar attack in the same town, a suicide bomber set off an explosion in a public bath, killing at least 17 people and wounding 23 more as the victims attended prayers.
