GATESVILLE, Texas, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- A Scottish socialite turned convicted Texas scam artist says she once lived in 30,000-square-foot home outside Edinburgh with maids and cooks.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Speaking for the first time since her much-publicized conviction on charges she stole money by posing as the rental agent for a Hawaii vacation home, Lady Amanda Bruce told Sunday's Austin (Texas) American-Statesman that she and her Scottish husband would "would live it up" at their estate.

"I wasn't infatuated with the lifestyle, but I loved my life", said the woman now known as Amanda Grimes, 41, from the Woodman State Jail in Gatesville, Texas.

Grimes, originally from Fairbanks, Alaska, reportedly consented to a plea agreement to resolve three felony theft charges and one charge of fraudulently using identifying information. She was sentenced Dec. 15 in Travis County, Texas, court to 13 months in jail.

She told the American-Statesman she wants to go back to Scotland to be with her three children, who range in age from 19 to 16.

"As hard as it is being in jail, it's really not that hard", Grimes said. "I probably wouldn't trade it. I have a certain perspective on a different society, and I'm making the most of it without question."
