LOS ANGELES, June 24 (UPI) -- Famed music producer and convicted murderer Phil Spector has been moved to the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison in Corcoran.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Spector was convicted in April of killing actress Lana Clarkson in 2003. He subsequently was sentenced to 19 years to life in prison.

The Los Angeles Times reported Spector, 69, entered his new home, which has special accommodations for older and disabled inmates, on Monday.

A prison spokesman told the newspaper Spector, who reportedly has various health problems, is being housed in a medium-security "special needs" unit. The division was created for inmates who require extra protection, such as actors Robert Downey Jr., who previously served time on drug charges, and Lane Garrison, who was convicted in a fatal drunken driving collision.

"Mr. Spector is high notoriety", jail representative Stephen Smith told the Times.

As for what life will be like for Spector behind bars in his new dwelling, Smith said, "The facility he is on now, there are a bunch of inmates that have instruments and they all play together on the exercise yard."
