BUENOS AIRES, June 29 (UPI) -- Argentina's Supreme Court Wednesday approved an abortion to protect the health of a mother, breaking a long-standing precedent.

The justices voted six in favor, three against, for permitting the unnamed woman who already has two children, to have an abortion. She reportedly is suffering from a number of maladies including a heart condition and obesity.

Argentina's 1994 constitution strictly forbids abortions though previous laws made concessions for abortions to protect the mother's health.
