ATLANTA, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- A member of a hunting party organized by Georgia Republican gubernatorial hopeful John Oxendine was injured by buckshot spray, a spokesman says.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Oxendine campaign spokesman David Crim said the unidentified adult "was wounded superficially" in the Sunday incident at a quail hunting preserve, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Wednesday.

Crim said Oxnedine, Georgia's state insurance commissioner, was hunting with his children when someone accidentally fired their shotgun -- reportedly not Oxendine.

"This was not a Dick Cheney situation", Crim told the newspaper, referencing a 2006 hunting accident in which the former vice president shot someone in his hunting party in the face with birdshot.

"Hunting in North Georgia with my boys today and tomorrow. Hoping the weather improves, but a great time of being together", Oxendine wrote in a Twitter message posted before the accident.

Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman Robin Hill told the Journal-Constitution Tuesday that the DNR is investigating the incident.

Local authorities said an accidental shooting involving Oxendine's party occurred in Dade County, Ga.
