| PARK CITY, Utah, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Olympic-hopeful snowboarder Kevin Pearce remains in stable-but-critical condition after a snowboarding accident in Utah, an official says. SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS An unidentified U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association official told The Salt Lake Tribune Friday that Pearce's condition had not changed since he suffered a serious head injury while snowboarding at Park City Mountain Resort Thursday. Pearce had surgery to drain fluid that had built up on his brain. Pearce's coach, Mike Jankowski, said Pearce was hurt attempting an aerial maneuver known as a "double cork" in which a snowboarder attempts a double back flip while twisting in the air. Jankowski said Pearce, 22, hit his head on the edge of a halfpipe, the Tribune reported. Pearce is expected to miss next week's portion of the U.S. Olympic trials for qualifying for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Related News Topics:
