ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 26 (UPI) -- The mother of a 21-year-old monorail driver killed last summer is suing Florida's Disney World theme park, court records show.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

The Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel said Christine Wuennenberg has claimed Disney failed to follow its monorail-safety procedures, leading to the crash that killed her son, Austin, who was driving at the time.

"Monorail pilots were required by Walt Disney Inc. to ignore the Monorail Operations Drive Training Guide with respect to changing cockpit positions simply because of the extra time involved", the newspaper quoted Wuennenberg's attorneys as saying in the 12-page complaint filed last week in Orange County circuit court. "This unnecessarily endangered the lives of both monorail pilots and, indeed, paying customers of Walt Disney Inc."

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited Disney for a "serious" safety violation in connection with the July 5, 2009, crash. A separate investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board has not been completed yet, the Sentinel said.

The newspaper did not say how much in damages Wuennenberg is seeking.
