BEIJING, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- A fire in an apartment building Wednesday in Wenzhou city in China's eastern Zhejiang province killed at least nine people, authorities said.

Two people who were injured in the blaze were reported in stable condition at a local hospital, China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported. The fire in the four-story building rented mostly by migrant workers started late at night and it took about 50 firefighters more than an hour to put it out.

A firefighter said the dead included one woman and eight men. Fire officials were investigating the cause of the fire.
