| NEW YORK, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Former NBA star Jayson Williams was charged Tuesday with driving while intoxicated after a crash in Manhattan, authorities say. SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS New York City police said Williams was taken to a hospital early Tuesday after his black Mercedes-Benz was found to have crashed into a tree along FDR Drive on Manhattan's Lower East Side, The (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger reported. The newspaper said authorities reported Williams sustained a laceration to his forehead and refused a breathalyzer test before being charged with DWI. Williams, 41, who started for the New Jersey Nets in the 1990s, is facing a retrial on reckless manslaughter charges in the 2002 shooting death of limousine driver Costas "Gus" Christofi, 55.
