PROVO, Utah, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Jimmer Fredette added to his growing reputation by scoring 43 points Wednesday and boosting No. 9 Brigham Young to a 71-58 win over No. 4 San Diego State.

It was the first loss of the season for the Aztecs and leaves No. 1 Ohio State as the only unbeaten team in major college basketball.

Fredette came into the game as the nation's leading scorer with 26.7 points per game and he ignited a second-half surge that saw the Cougars overcome a one-point deficit at the break.

Fredette made 14-of-24 shots from the field, five of his baskets being 3-pointers. He was 10-of-11 from the foul line.

Brigham Young won its 10th straight since suffering its only loss of the season to UCLA. BYU and San Diego State are both 20-1 for the campaign, with BYU (6-0) moving a game in front of San Diego State (5-1) in the Mountain West Conference.

The teams will meet again Feb. 26 in San Diego.

Brandon Davies added 14 points for the Cougars and the remainder of the BYU squad combined for just 14 more.

Kawhi Leonard led San Diego State with 22 points but the Aztecs were held to 35 percent shooting from the floor.

Fredette has scored 153 points over his last four games, including a 47-point performance at Utah.
