PITTSBURGH, June 18 (UPI) -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Verron Haynes used three bad checks to purchase a vehicle, prosecutors in Allegheny County, Pa., allege.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review said Haynes, who played for the Steelers from 2002 to 2007, appeared at a pretrial conference Wednesday in Allegheny County Courthouse and received a trial date of Sept. 16.

Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey A. Manning is set to preside over the NFL player's trial.

Haynes stands accused of purchasing a 2001 Aston Martin from a car dealership in Monroeville, Pa., in 2006 for $67,375, the newspaper said.

The running back allegedly only paid A&L Motors $7,650 for the vehicle before writing three bad checks totaling $70,000, officials said.

The Tribune-Review said Haynes only played briefly for the Steelers in his final year, before eventually landing a position with the Atlanta Falcons.
