CLEVELAND, June 26 (UPI) -- Former Cleveland wide receiver Joe Jurevicius is suing the Browns for a staph infection that might have ended his NFL career, the Plain Dealer said.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Jurevicius, 34, filed a civil suit in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Friday, claiming team physicians failed to warn him that sterile techniques were not at all times used at the Browns training facility in Berea, Ohio.

The Cleveland Clinic also was cited because he underwent knee surgery at the facility in January 2008.

He did not play last season.

Jurevicius said he developed staph in his right knee after therapy devices passed among multiple individuals, including Cleveland players, were not properly maintained and/or cleaned, if at all.

"I wanted to play out my career for my hometown team", he said in a statement to the newspaper through his attorney, Shannon Polk. "This problem touches every player who trusts what they are told about the care they are being offered."

The 10-year veteran was released by the Browns in March.
