| GLEN ROCK, N.J., Jan. 25 (UPI) -- A U.S. hacker says he has hacked into Sony's PlayStation3, the BBC reported. SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS George Hotz, who unlocked Apple's iPhone as a teenager, told BBC News the hack could allow people to run pirated games or homemade software. He said the operation took him five weeks. Sony said it was "investigating the report" and would then "clarify the situation", the BBC said. The 20-year-old Hotz, known online as "geohot" and other avatars, calls Glen Rock, N.J., home. Hotz said his hack was "5 percent hardware and 95 percent software." "You can use hardware to inject an insecurity and then you can build on that", he told the BBC. Conceding he had not hacked the whole PS3 system, including the protected memory, Hotz said he had worked out ways to trick the console. Hotz said he was still working on the hack and would publish details online once he is finished. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Related News Topics:
