LONDON, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Britain's Crown Prosecution Service says it will review the convictions of 20 environmental protesters.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

The protesters were sentenced for their role in a plan to shut down the United Kingdom's second-largest power station, The Daily Telegraph reported.

The investigation was ordered after a former undercover police officer offered to provide information in support of the activists convicted of conspiracy to commit aggravated trespass at the coal-fired plant in Nottinghamshire.

The activists were released from the Nottingham Crown Court on a variety of community and conditional discharge orders earlier this month.

The CPS said it decided to review the matter following disclosures about the involvement of former undercover police officer Mark Kennedy, who infiltrated activists' groups using the name Mark Stone.

The CPS said it would "consider the safety of the convictions arising from the trial in relation to the Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station protest. This will be a thorough review but conducted as quickly as possible."
