First lady Michelle Obama and the first couple's two daughters, Sasha and Malia, were on hand to accept the tree, Voice of America reported.

After it's decorated, it will be on display in the White House's Blue Room throughout the holiday season, Obama's office said.

The first lady was overheard saying it is the biggest Christmas tree the family has ever had, VOA reported.

The tree was supplied by Eric and Gloria Sundback, who won a competition run by the National Christmas Tree Association. It is the fourth time the Sundbacks have provided the White House tree, the group said.

The Sundbacks were treated to tea with Obama, describing the event later as "wonderful" and "a thrill", VOA said.
