WASHINGTON, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Former U.S. President George W. Bush says that during his time in the White House he called and "chatted" with his predecessor, Bill Clinton.

Appearing with Clinton on "Face the Nation" aired on CBS Sunday, Bush said he communicated with Clinton during his time in the White House.

"I don't know about often", Bush said. "But I did -- I called him. He didn't call me because he knows how busy a president is. I called him and we chatted on occasion."

"I was always pleased when he called me", Clinton said. "I'd make it a practice never to bother the president. I don't call President Obama, either. I don't think it's -- you know, they have got plenty to do. But we have developed a very honest, good friendship. And we've made our disagreements respectful and we've had a good time doing it."

Bush and Clinton were interviewed together on CBS in a piece taped Saturday in the White House Map Room following a joint appearance with current U.S. President Barack Obama in which all three called on viewers to donate money to Haiti earthquake relief efforts.
