SASKATOON, Saskatchewan, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- A Saskatchewan woman who received a lot of publicity in 2007 when she sued over her husband's death from cancer says she quietly settled the lawsuit months ago.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Crystal Bonderud told The StarPhoenix of Saskatoon the settlement included an agreement to keep the amount confidential. A spokeswoman for the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency would say only that the lawsuit was dismissed in February by mutual consent.

Bonderud's husband, Doug, was allegedly misdiagnosed and told he had two tumors that could not be operated on. After drug treatment failed, he went to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota where a large tumor was removed but too late to save his life because the cancer had spread.

Doug Bonderud was also denied reimbursement for his treatment at Mayo.

In 2006 and 2007, Bonderud protested outside political conventions and took other steps to dramatize her husband's case and raise awareness of the alleged failings of Saskatchewan's healthcare policy. Now, she says, the lawsuit was "just dragging on and on."

"Was I satisfied with the settlement? That's kind of a tough question", the Saskatoon resident said. "I'm happy that it's settled, that it's finished, that I can put it behind me and move forward with my life."
