SAKHAKOT, Pakistan, June 6 (UPI) -- Two leaders of a Pakistani Islamic militant group were slain when a prisoner convoy they were riding in was attacked, officials said Saturday.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

A statement from Pakistan's Inter Services Public Relations said Ameer Izzat, the spokesman for Tehrik-e-Nifaz-Shariate-Mohammadi, and Muhammad Alam Khan, one of its senior leaders, were slain in a prisoner van when militants ambushed the convoy in the Malakand district, Pakistan's English-language newspaper Dawn reported.

"The convoy was attacked by an improvised explosive device followed by firing by terrorists at 5:10 a.m. at Sakhakot", the statement said, adding that one soldier was killed and five others injured in the assault.

The convoy was on its way to the North West Frontier Province capital of Peshawar after the two TNSM officials had been arrested along with three Afghan nationals Thursday, Dawn said.
