ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, June 26 (UPI) -- Visiting U.S. national security adviser Gen. James Jones praised the Pakistani government's anti-terrorist campaign, the state-run news agency said.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Jones said the campaign launched by the government of President Asif Ali Zardari was particularly helpful in that it had broad-based public and political support, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

Jones ended his Pakistan visit Thursday before proceeding to India. During his stay he also met with the Pakistani prime minister and the country's army chief.

Dawn reported Jones, in his talk with the Pakistani military leadership, discussed operational details and timing of the intensified counter-insurgency operation in Afghanistan, as well as its synchronization with the military offensive against extremists in Pakistan.

The newspaper quoted a U.S. embassy statement saying the purpose of Jones's visit was to discuss challenges confronting Pakistan and coordinate efforts with the Pakistani government for implementing the new shared comprehensive strategy.

Jones said Pakistan's military operation against militants was a "tremendous confidence-builder for the future", Dawn said, adding the campaign had generated goodwill for Pakistan in the United States.
