LONDON, June 15 (UPI) -- A seven-bedroom house in London's swanky Mayfair neighborhood has been repossessed, in what analysts said is believed to be Britain's largest foreclosure.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

The house belonged to Cevdet Caner, who bought it in 2007 for 16 million pounds ($24 million) and spent a few million more fixing it up, The Daily Mail reported. Caner put the house on the market in December but had no luck finding a buyer.

Caner was chief executive officer of Level One, a Monaco-based company that developed low-cost housing in Germany. The company declared bankruptcy last year, reporting it owed 1.2 billion pounds ($1.8 billion).

Caner said he owed Credit Suisse 16 million pounds on the London house. The bank refused his offer to repay the amount owed in full, he said.

"Instead they put the company into receivership, sent in bailiffs to repossess it and have not instructed agents to find a buyer", he said. "I can't understand why they are doing this, other than to humiliate me and damage my reputation."

If the house sells for more than 16 million pounds, Caner will receive the excess.
