LONDON, June 4 (UPI) -- U.S. actress Whoopi Goldberg attended the opening night of the West End musical adaptation of her hit 1992 movie "Sister Act" this week.

The BBC said "The View" panelist and Oscar-winning "Ghost" star received a standing ovation when she took the stage after the show's premiere performance at the London Palladium.

"Those performers put everything on the line tonight and they deserved a standing ovation", said Goldberg, who is one of the musical's producers.

"The stage version of the show is fresh and new, and I'm beyond thrilled to be part of it", she previously said.

"Beforehand, I was a mess, but I think just talking to Whoopi before I actually went on stage and then I talked to my parents and everyone around me", newcomer Patina Miller, who took over Goldberg's character of a singer hiding out in a convent from gangsters, told the BBC. "You've got to stop the nerves at the door and as soon as the lights go down, honey, you've just got to do it and that's what I did. It was great."
