| SOFIA, Bulgaria, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- A senior U.N. official has urged the Bulgarian government to find the killers of Boris Tsankov, who was shot dead on a busy Sofia street. SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS Tsankov had written extensively about organized crime in Bulgaria and was reportedly planning a new book about drug trafficking. "It seems clear that he was targeted because he was revealing information about criminal activities. Such a brazen attack jeopardizes freedom of expression and freedom of the press, rights that are basic and essential to ensure a democratic society", Irina Bokova, director general of the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, said Friday. Tsankov, 30, was with two men believed to be his bodyguards when he was killed Tuesday on Aleksandur Stamboliiski Boulevard.
