LIMA, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Emergency veterinary kits are being sent to the mountains of Peru to help alpaca farmers devastated by heavy rain and flooding, a U.N. agency said Friday.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

The U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization said Peru's Civil Defense announced this week that 37,000 farmers have been affected in the Andes Mountains.

The farmers depend on alpacas, small domesticated mammals related to camels and llamas, for both wool and meat. The farmers' survival depends on their survival.

The U.N. is sending emergency veterinary kits to the region to treat young alpacas for bronchial pneumonia.
