DEMILITARIZED ZONE, South Korea, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Members of a Korean War armistice monitoring commission say they will keep doing their jobs even if North Korea doesn't recognize the panel's existence.

A representative of the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission has left minutes of its meetings in a North Korean mailbox along the Military Demarcation Line that divides the two Koreas every week for 15 years, and for 15 years no one from the North has picked them up, the U.S. military newspaper Stars and Stripes reported Tuesday.

But that hasn't deterred the Swiss and Swedish generals on the commission, who say it's a matter of honor and duty to follow the rules of the 1953 armistice that ended the Korean conflict, even if one side doesn't.

"It is a very important thing to be a country you can trust in and that sticks to its agreements", Swedish Maj. Gen. Christer Lidstrom told Stars and Stripes. "It's the way we normally do business in our part of the world. We stick to the rules."

Pyongyang doesn't recognize the commission because it has rejected the terms of the armistice, contending it is no longer valid.
