| MILAN, Italy, June 9 (UPI) -- Italian police alleged Monday that two doctors killed five nursing home patients by performing unnecessary surgeries in a ploy to boost their fees. SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS The doctors, identified as Pierpaolo Brega Massone and his assistant Pietro Fabio Presicci, were booked Monday in Milan on suspicion of murder, the Italian news agency ANSA reported. Authorities said the pair removed the lung of one patient, allegedly causing him to die, and in another case, police say the doctors stretched a simple tumor removal out over three operations, making it financially more lucrative, but which so weakened the patient that she died. ANSA reported that 12 other doctors and the director of the nursing home where the alleged crimes occurred have been put under house arrest on suspicion of performing superfluous procedures on mainly terminally ill patients, adding that medical tests were allegedly altered to justify performing pricey procedures. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Related News Topics:
