CHICAGO, June 29 (UPI) -- The results of a major restoration of the Tiffany dome of the Chicago Cultural Center will be unveiled next month, a conservator says.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Architectural conservator Tony Kartsonas, who worked on the restoration, said the center's dome has been returned to the original look famed designer Louis Comfort Tiffany created, the Chicago Tribune reported Saturday.

Kartsonas said Tiffany used a decorative material called aluminum leaf on the dome's surface and, over time, the material underwent significant surface corrosion.

A 2005 pilot project found a portion of the dome was dazzling after undergoing a thorough cleaning, leading to a whole-scale restoration for the cultural site.

Kartsonas told the Tribune the restoration also involved putting art glass works back into place and gilding the dome's frame.

"It's going to be vastly different from what people remember", he said, adding that the enhanced dome will represent Tiffany's original intent for the Chicago monument.
