DETROIT, May 25 (UPI) -- Organizers of the Movement 08 techno music festival in Detroit said they were on pace Sunday to break an attendance record in the wake an appearance by Moby.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Movement 08, in its fourth year as a ticketed event, drew nearly 22,000 people Saturday to its mixture of local youth-oriented techno, house and hip-hop music, highlighted by a performance from techno superstar Moby, the Detroit Free Press reported Sunday. It said organizers believed there was a good chance to break the event's record of 45,000 attendees with Sunday's show.

The newspaper said Moby reverted to his original role as a disc jockey for the Movement 08 performance, taking a break from his recent mode of pop-crossover performer to provide a "fluent two-hour" set that included nods to Detroit's rich history of house and techno influences.

Some critics had wondered whether it was appropriate for a well-established star such as the 42-year-old Moby to make an appearance at what for the most part has been a venue for up-and-coming local talent. But, the Free Press said, Moby held his own among the much younger locals taking the DJ position.
