NEVILLE, Ohio, June 26 (UPI) -- Neville, Ohio, a town on the Ohio River that lost half its population to a 1997 flood, has a slogan for its bicentennial, "Neville: 200 years and still afloat."

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

The three-day celebration ends Saturday, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. Officials expected 2,000 people to show up to help the town of 129 mark 200 years.

Neville is southeast and upriver from Cincinnati. The town has a long history of floods, and in 1997 many residents accepted buyouts and moved to higher ground.

Janet Blackburn, the postmaster, took charge of the bicentennial, mailing letters to former residents and organizing tents for family reunions. Councilman Pete Krimmer came up with the slogan.

Neville was laid out in 1808 by Presley Neville, a Revolutionary War veteran whose father, Gen. John Neville, had been granted land on the Ohio River. The son founded the town in 1808 on 45 acres of his father's land.

The festivities include a spaghetti dinner at the Free Will Baptist Church, music of various types, displays of antique tractors and Indian tools and weapons and a re-enactment of life on the Ohio 200 years ago.
