BANDRA, India, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan was hospitalized in India during the weekend with severe abdominal pain, a spokesman for the actor said.

Bachchan, who turned 66 Saturday, was said to be in stable condition Sunday at Lilavati hospital in suburban Bandra, Press Trust of India reported. He was awaiting results of a CT scan and blood tests, and was expected to remain hospitalized at least 48 hours, PTI said.

The actor's son, Abhishek, issued a statement Saturday saying his father was responding well to treatment.

Bachchan may be suffering from incisional hernia, a recurring problem with which he has contended since a near-fatal accident on a movie set in 1982, PTI reported.

He had been shooting Leena Yadav's "Teen Patti" until Friday.
