LOS ANGELES, July 19 (UPI) -- Actor Michael Emanuel says he will make his directorial debut with the Hollywood production "Maneater", a movie based on an American Indian legend.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

The "ER" actor said the movie, which will be produced by Emanuel's Canal Street Films, follows a small-town sheriff investigating several unusual killings, The Hollywood Reporter said Friday.

"It's a story that was told to me by an old Native American back in the late '70s", Emanuel said. "It's based on the Western Ojibwa (Chippewa) legend of the Windigo."

Emanuel's production company is casting the thriller and will begin filming July 30.

Emanuel is known for his appearances on the TV series "The Nine." He also produced the recent horror movie "The Uninvited."
