LONDON, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- British actor Daniel Craig said he needed plastic surgery after he severed a fingertip and sustained a gash to his face on the set of "Quantum of Solace."

"Solace" is Craig's second on-screen outing as James Bond. He also played the iconic British secret agent in the remake of "Casino Royale."

Craig said he needed eight stitches on his face after he was accidentally kicked by one of his co-stars last June.

In an interview with Elle magazine, the 40-year-old actor dismissed the incident as "a stupid inconvenience", adding, "They gave me an excellent plastic surgeon."

The BBC said Craig wore an arm sling at a Bond event in London last weekend.

His spokeswoman told the British broadcaster he underwent a shoulder operation several weeks ago for a prior injury unrelated to the "Quantum of Solace" mishap.
