LOS ANGELES, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- U.S. singer and actress Cher is in talks to play the supervillain Catwoman in Warner Brothers' next Batman movie, sources say.

Cher, 62, who won an Academy Award for best actress for her work in the 1987 movie "Moonstruck", is negotiating with movie producers to star alongside Christian Bale in the third of the new series of "dark" Batman films, The Daily Mirror reported over the weekend. Johnny Depp is already cast in the movie to play supervillain The Riddler.

A unnamed studio executive told the newspaper, "Cher is (director Christopher Nolan's) first choice to play Catwoman. He wants her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years. The new Catwoman will be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry's purring creations."

The Daily Mail said shooting on the film, tentatively entitled "The Caped Crusader", is due to start in Vancouver, Canada, early next year.

The most recent entry in the series, "The Dark Knight", is currently playing and has grossed $489 million so far.
