LONDON, July 3 (UPI) -- Police in England say they have no leads regarding who stole a tombstone from the grave of Joy Division front man Ian Curtis at a Cheshire cemetery.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Ian Curtis, the lead singer of the late 1970s band Joy Division, committed suicide in 1980 at the age of 23.

Interest in the band increased when the bio-picture "Control" and the documentary "Joy Division" were recently released, inspiring countless fans to visit Curtis' burial place in Macclesfield Cemetery, The Times of London said.

Police said the tombstone was stolen from the singer's grave between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning.

A Cheshire police spokesman told The Times: "It's an unusual theft. It's probably a good piece of memorabilia for someone. There is no CCTV in the area and there are no apparent leads as to who is responsible for the theft."
